Go mobile with Google

It seems more and more people are starting to sit up and take note of the growth in mobile web traffic. The latest stats show mobiles make up almost 20% of UK internet traffic – and it's growing fast.

 Go mobile with Google

Add to that the surge in m-commerce as smartphone users become more confident in buying on their mobile, and it’s easy to see why ‘go mobile’ is becoming something of a must-do.

More and more of our clients are now taking a serious look at mobile and wondering how they can make the switch.

Even Google are in on the act, encouraging people to test their m-site out for mobile optimisation.

Their latest project, ‘How To Go Mo’, tests your site to see how easy it is to read on a mobile, offering tips and advice for getting started.

It includes these handy hints:

  • use a clear hierarchy in menus
  • don’t include page after page of links and buttons – limit each page to a maximum of 7
  • make sure your content fits on screen and can be read without pinching and zooming
  • try to avoid flash – it might look good on desktop but not all smartphones can handle it

There’s never going to be a one-size-fits-all approach to mobile, but it’s a good starting point if you’re not sure where to go.
